Introduction: Chinese Health Qigong is a traditional Chinese health and fitness Qigong exercise routine, Ba Duan Jin, or Eight Section Exercise, dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). With easy movements and impressive effects on health, it is a gem in China's health and fitness culture. In March 2008 the Masters from the Chinese Health Qigong Association in China came to Toronto and introduced Ba Duan Jin and 3 other forms to a small group of Canadians in hopes to spread the word and Health Qigong practice to western culture.

Health Qigong Exercises Series are safe aerobic exercises, it features movement intensity and format in line with the theories of kinetics and physiology. It has been proven that the practice of Ba Duan Jin improves the respiratory system, limb strength, flexibility of the joints, and fortifies the nerves, as well as enhances one's general balance. It improves the cardiovascular function and helps to cure such illnesses as coronary artery scleroses and osteoporosis. It strengthens one's immune system to a degree and delays the ageing process, so as to increases the life span. It also reduces stress and improves one's mental health.

The movements are gentle, relaxed and gracefully extending of the basis of a well-balanced stance. The movements are performed in a round and flowing way, with a distinction between substantial and insubstantial. The spine initiates movements throughout the body. Without any restraint, the routines are performed with a natural approach and well co-ordinated movements of the upper and lower body and a suitable speed. The Movements are continuous, like flowing water without interruption to instil calmness in the practitioner's body and mind. This helps to smooth the internal circulation of vital energy and improves one's health and fitness.

Relaxation requires a resistant-free state of the muscles, joints and central nervous system. The movements are guided by the mind, and the breathing is gentle with the heart calm and the body relaxed. Strength is only required with changing movements; relaxation is maintained at all other times. A good combination of strength and relaxation helps to maintain balance between the Yin and Yang, the two principals opposing and interactive aspects of the body as described in traditional Chinese Medicine. It also help to improve circulation in the channels and collaterals, and smooth the actions of the joints and the blood circulation. All this effects in strengthening the body and improving health.

The Mind in Qigong refers to one's mental state and normal consciousness, and bodily movements guided by the mind and thoughts and intention. The two form an interactive and inter-promotional integrity, characterized by harmony and symmetry shown in all, and between every two movements. Ba Duan Jin is noted for its smooth comfortable postures and its movements are performed with profound inner strength. The purpose of the exercises is to increase internal energy circulation through spiritual cultivation and physical exercises, so as to improve health and fitness. Deep and natural breathing is required during the practice of the routines, without any constraint. $120 for 8 classes, $18 for single class
